Are there areas in Calgary that are safer than others?

The fact that Radon gas is present in Alberta is not new information. What is relatively new are the health studies published about its long-term effects. Radon is a radioactive gas that occurs naturally when the uranium in the soil and rock breaks down. The reason why it is so hard to detect is because it is invisible, odourless and tasteless. This gas is being released from the ground all the time but becomes a concern when it is in an enclosed space such as your home/business. Long term health risks such lung cancer are possible if this gas accumulates in high levels in your home.

The risks for getting DNA damage related cancer is correlated to the Radon levels and how long a person has been exposed. This risk is amplified when mixed with tobacco smoke!
